About Jonathan Olson

Jon Olson has over 20 years experience as a dedicated photojournalist, both on-staff and as a freelancer for news organizations such as The Hartford Courant, The Syracuse Newspapers, American Profile, and several other local and national publications. Most of Jon’s photography work has been done in the field (and the streets, and the occasional mountaintop or ocean,) but he has even managed a desk job – serving as Director of Photography at the Record-Journal of Meriden, CT. 

 

For the last decade, Jon has worked as a freelancer. Jon’s adaptable shooting style and ease with his subjects have lead to a successful career covering everything from features, sports and news editorial assignments to advertising shoots to corporate portraits. He also shoots for a number of Non-profit organizations including The Hartford Seminary and Partnership for Strong Communities producing annual report photographs.

 

Jon has won awards for his photography from the Associated Press, and National Press Photographers Association. He has been a participant in the highly-regarded Eddie Adams Workshop as a staff member.

 

Jon was born in Baltimore, Maryland and raised in Minnesota. He came east to attend college at Syracuse University and graduated with a BA in History in 1988. Jon is an avid sailor, skier, cyclist and hiker. Crafty with tools besides the camera, Jon has accomplished several fine home building projects – including his family’s home-away-from-home in Vermont. He is currently putting the finishing touches his high efficency home he built from the ground up in West Fairlee, VT.
